Still in pain from bike ride on Sunday

Yes, 5 days on, my body is still aching from a 48km bike ride on Sunday! Myself and some Swinburne colleagues rode from Altona to Werribee along the Federation Trail. I thought I was fit but obviously NOT. To top things off, when I arrived home after the ride, I painted the spare room (well, gave it a second coat). No wonder I'm still in pain!

If scenery is important to you whilst riding, I wouldn't recommend the Federation Trail. Lots of tumbleweeds, thistles, holden wrecks, factories and one smelly tip (near Altona). That aside, was a decent track as mainly flat and has nice smooth bitumen surface. The coffee at the Wyndham City Library was good at the end too! A great way to break the ride up!

Helen, the aerobics co-ordinator at my old gym (who was an awesome lady, and an excellent instructor too) used to stress that fitness is pretty activity specific, so if you can run, for example, it doesn't mean that you will be able to swim or cycle without feeling the pain. Cardiovascular fitness is measurable, and I would say you have plenty, just your body isn't used to a bike (or painting). Either way, I am in awe of your mammoth effort this weekend!

Well done Helen. I admire your effort given that you had not been on a bike for ages before the ride. It bodes well for you finishing the 50km leg of Around the Bay.
